SISTERS     A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day,  drinking iced tea and visiting with her mother. As  they talked about life, about marriage, about the  responsibilities of life and the obligations of  adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her  glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance  upon her daughter..  'Don't forget your sisters,' she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. 'They'll  be more important as you get older. No matter how  much you love your husband, no matter how much you  love the children you may have, you are still going  to need sisters. Remember to go places with them now  and then; do things with them...'  'Remember that 'sisters' means ALL the women...  your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other  women relatives too.. 'You'll need other women. Women  always do.'  What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman  thought. Haven't I just gotten married?  Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a  married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely  my husband and the family we may start will be all I  need to make my life worthwhile!'  But she listened to her mother. She kept contact  with her sisters and made more women friends each  year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,  she gradually came to understand that her mother really  knew what she was talking about. As time and nature  work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman,  sisters are the mainstays of her life..  After more than 50 years of living in this world,  here is what I've learned:  THIS SAYS IT ALL:  Time passes.  Life happens.  Distance separates.  Children grow up.  Jobs come and go.  Love waxes and wanes.  Men don't do what they're supposed to do.  Hearts break.  Parents die.  Colleagues forget favors.  Careers end.  BUT.........  Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how  many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.  When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you  have to walk it by yourself, the 20 women in your life  will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,  praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on  your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the  valley's end..  Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk  beside you...Or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,  daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers,  Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended  family: all bless our life!  The world wouldn't be the same without women, and  neither would I.. When we began this adventure called  womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or  sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we  would need each other..  Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on  to all t he women who help make your life meaningful.  I just did. Short and very sweet:  There are more than twenty angels in this world.  Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds. Nine are  playing. TULSI THE MOST PRECIOUS BUT A FREE GIFT OF NATURE TO MANKIND

 

The sacred TULSI herbal plant known as OCIMUM BASILICUM or LAMIACEAE in the whole world particularly in our country is widely famous for its multi medicinal properties. It is a free gift from mother NATURE to the mankind and cheapest of all. Every one can afford to have it in his garden or orchid to use its leaves, seeds, roots for many ailments and for healthy upkeep of the body at no cost at all. It is worshipped in many homes in our country for its healing properties, fragrance, royal aroma and flavor. Tusi means not comparable. Its medicinal properties effectiveness cannot be described in words. It helps to nourish mind and inspire the spirit to the desired heights. It is the purest and most sublime plant which every house should have as its very presence keeps the insects and many ailments much away from the family. Hence in Hindu temples it is normally mixed in CHARNAMRIT .and the PRASAD etc.

TULSI or HOLY BASIL relieves flatulence. Its essential oil is very effective and contains vitamin A & C.

We all know that Tulsi leaves taken with black pepper check malaria and periodic fever and other ailments. Steam of its boiled leaves is used for fomentation of the affected parts. Its use after yogic Asanas and breath control exercises is very effective. It is very effective for poor digestion, lack of appetite, constipation, acidity, labour pains, snake bites (by using tulsi juice mixed with black pepper seeds), acne and ring worm. Tulsi seeds control urinary pain. Use it for gargle or mouth wash for thrush, as a herb for increased energy and as a eye wash for tired eyes. Its oil is used for massage and dried herb burned as an antiseptic incense in many homes.

To sum up in brief the following uses to which it is put have made this plant as elixir and in Greek the Basileus means the king..

• It reduces the intensity  and negative effect of stress, mental tension, emotional difficulties, poor life style habits, infection, pollution etc etc.
• Protect cells from damage and check excess oxidation.
• Its leaves are nerve tonic and sharpen memory.
• Remove phlegm from bronchial tube.
• Contains calcium, zinc, iron and chlorophyll
• Tea boiled with its leaves check fever in rainy season, malaria, and even dengue fever.
• Its leaves boiled with powdered cardamom with sugar and milk in half a liter water when taken brings down the temperature.

• Chewing its leaves relieves cold and flu.
• Sore throat can be treated with boiled tulsi water and for gargles.

• Influenza is controlled by having a decoction of leaves, cloves and common salt.
• Decoction of leaves, GINGER AND HONEY IS BEST FOR COUGH, Asthama, cold and influenza.
• Tulsi strengthen the kidneys.Juice of tulsi leaves and honey can check renal stone and even can expel the stone through urinary tract if used for 6 months daily..
• It reduces the level of blood cholesterol.
• For children ailments such as cough, cold fever, diarrhea, vomiting its juice is effective.
• Chew 12 leaves daily twice a day for a healthy life.
• It checks painful inflammation caused by arthritis and cancer.
• Mouth ulcer and infection are checked by its use by chewing the leaves.
• Tulsi juice is useful for skin disorders, ringworm and even for leucoderma etc.
• It checks teeth disorders. Dried leave after made powder be used for brushing teeth. The powder can be mixed with mustered oil to make a paste for teeth brushing and for checking bad breath/ massaging gums.
• Helps healthy liver functions and to check liver diseases.
• Decoction of leaves mixed with sandalwood paste be applied on forehead to check headaches.
• Tulsi juice is an effective remedy for sore eyes and night blindness caused by lack of vitamin A
• Its low toxicity provides no adverse reactions or other side effects.
• It purifies the blood and prevent negative physical and psychological effects of stress.
• Tulsi improves stamina, strength and endurance etc.
